Dear SASS Members,

I was delighted to be invited to take over as the SASS President, and to be given the opportunity to represent the interests of the Ship Supply industry in Singapore. May I also take this opportunity to thank Mr Abdul Hameed Hajah for his input during the period of his presidency.

We have already held one dialogue session on the subject of the Singapore supply boat arrangements. I am grateful to all who attended and for their useful comments and contributions. Your comments will be presented to Jurong Port and the other interested parties. Please be assured that we will do our best to represent your concerns to the relevant Government officers and the other decision makers. Ultimately our objective is to encourage the relevant departments to build and operate additional lighterage wharfs.

At the end of April I was pleased to lead a SASS Trade Delegation to Shanghai. There were several objectives, but mainly to develop our contacts with the Shanghai Port Trade Association. During the visit, and on behalf of SASS, I signed a protocol. Our aim now is to continue to build on this start-point. For the future…. possibly a trade exhibition or other specific ship-supply event.

This year’s ISSA Convention and Trade Exhibition will be held from 16 to 18 October in Istanbul. Please refer to the the ISSA Convention website for full details. In addition SASS will keep you advised as information is received from Europe.

For the time being one final point! We are committed to increase SASS’s visibility and profile on the Singapore waterfront. Undoubtedly SASS is known within Government and in the various non-governmental organizations and departments, but we feel that we could have a much greater profile and visibility. We will be working towards this objective and will take every opportunity to promote SASS’s interests. If you have a subject that you wish to be aired, please let me know!!

With kind regards,
Tony Ng
SASS President
